Dimensional Reduction for Generalized Poisson Brackets
We discuss dimensional reduction for Hamiltonian systems which possess nonconstant Poisson brackets between pairs of coordinates and between pairs of momenta. The associated Jacobi identities imply that the dimensionally reduced brackets are always constant. Some examples are given alongside the general theory.

We identify exact gauge-instanton-like solutions to (super)-string theory using the method of dimensional reduction. We find in particular the Polyakov instanton of 3d QED, and a class of generalized Yang-Mills merons. We discuss their marginal deformations, and show that for the 3d instanton they correspond to a dissociation of vectorand axialmagnetic charges. CERN-TH.7100/93 CPTh-A276.11.93 N...
متن کاملSpontaneous Dimensional Reduction in Short-Distance Quantum Gravity?
Several lines of evidence suggest that quantum gravity at very short distances may behave effectively as a two-dimensional theory. I summarize these hints, and offer an additional argument based on the strong-coupling limit of the Wheeler-DeWitt equation. The resulting scenario suggests a novel approach to quantum gravity at the Planck scale.
متن کاملDimensional reduction via dimensional shadowing
1. Uni ed eld theories suggest a N dimensional conguration space with N̄ = N−4 > 0 extra dimensions not perceived in nature. The common heuristic reasons for this proposition are: (i) the volume [Hausdor measure] does not scale like μH(δ,R ) = δ μH(1,R ), where δ is some length scale and 1 stands for its unity. Instead, experience tells us that increasing (or decreasing) the spacial size of an o...
